Anil Shetty, National President of Nav Bharat Democratic Party had a meeting with Ms. Jennifer Roberts, Mayor of Charlotte City in North Carolina. Ms. Roberts gave a verbal tour of Charlotte city while Mr.Shetty spoke about Bengaluru. Charlotte is the third fastest growing city in the United States with many new people coming there to make a living. Charlotte Mayor has her own youth engagement program which empowers youth in various fields which Shetty thought would be a good idea to implement in Bengaluru. They both discussed several issues related to building sustainable cities. As the city is still under the control of North Carolina State Ms. Robert explained the way they manage Charlotte city, to make sure it’s growth is not hindered in power struggle between municipality and state Govt.
The city has generated the highest rate of employment and is a hub for the banking and energy sector. Anil shetty was surprised to hear  they have 17,000 plus open jobs in the IT sector in a city of 8,00,000 people.

Speaking to media Anil Shetty said “It was good to hear Ms. Jennifer Robert on municipal governance. Some good ideas can be replicated in Bengaluru to make our city liveable in the future. Just to mention Ms. Jennifer Robert is a directly elected Mayor “.

Post the meeting Anil Shetty handed over Channapatna wood handcraft toys as a token of appreciation to Ms. Jennifer Roberts and explained the cultural significance and thought behind that particular hand craft he presented.
While Karnataka’s centuries old Channapatna wood handcraft is fighting stiff competition from cheap Chinese replicas, Anil is promoting them wherever he goes. He even carried more than 50 of them to The United States as gifts to the people he met.

Mr. Shetty’s meeting with the Mayor was facilitated by the US Department of State under the International Visitors Leadership Program ( IVLP). In the past, leaders like Indira Gandhi, Narendra Modi and Pratibha Patil have gone on the same invitation when they were young politicians. Anil shetty has travelled to four states in United States starting from Washington DC, Portland, Charlotte and Boston. In the three week long tour he met several political leaders, government officials, city corporations and non profit organisations. He also attended youth leadership and civic engagement workshops at Harvard University, Boston University and Emerson College. He is hoping to build collaborations with several of them in Bengaluru in order to make our city better.

Anil shetty recently launched his own political party Nav Bharat Democratic Party with an immediate goal to form the youngest city council in the country by winning 2020 BBMP election.
