Bengaluru, 21 June, 2017: Yoga is a valuable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It is a lot more than just an exercise to burn calories and tone muscles. It is a workout that relaxes and strengthens your mind and body. Children practice yoga to develop balance, posture and stamina. In view of the rich benefits of practicing yoga, children at Sesame Street Preschool in Bengaluru today celebrated the International Yoga Day by practicing yoga asanas and postures which were made fun and engaging by the educators.
Children began the celebrations with a warm up session, followed by different yoga poses like standing, sitting and lying down poses. Educators taught some common yoga postures to children like the archer’s pose, mountain pose, jumping jacks, bowing pose, etc. They taught children about these poses by narrating interesting imaginative stories. They talked about the jungle and the cobra, the butterfly, the trees in the jungle and every time they mentioned these the young ones had to perform the yoga postures corresponding to these names like the cobra pose or the butterfly pose.
Mona Singh, Vice President, Sesame Schoolhouse, shares,“Yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual practice that needs to be carried regularly. While all the other exercises may take care of your physical conditions, yoga helps you to control not just your body but also your mind. At Sesame Street Preschool we focus upon the holistic development of children and take learning beyond the classroom walls through engaging activities of play and exercise. Children enjoyed the International Yoga day celebrations today while they learned about different yoga asanas and how each asana can help in their physical and mental wellbeing.”
The curriculum of Sesame Street Preschools is based on over 45 years of research on how children learn, what engages them, and most importantly what ignites their desire to learn so that it becomes a lifelong habit.
