Gionee books orders worth INR 150 cr during pre- booking period for A1, their first flagship of the year in just 10 days

Customers queue up in excitement on a Sunday late night to grab their A1s at select retail outlets

India, April 11 2017: Gionee, the country’s leading smartphone player, has received an overwhelming response to its first flagship of the year, A1. The selfie + battery focused A1, which opened pre booking on March 31, 2017, received as many as 74,682 pre-orders, order worth INR 150 Cr, in the first ten days, till April 9, 2017.

The company has been celebrating the success of A1 with its initial customers on the streets and retail front with midnight launches of A1 in select cities across India since yesterday. According to the pre-order terms and conditions, customers were offered a two-year warranty on the phone along with attractive gifts such as JBL headphone or a Swiss Military Bluetooth Speaker.

Commenting on the milestone, Arvind R Vohra, Country Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD), Gionee India said, “We are overwhelmed by the reponse of our customers to Gionee’s first flagship of the year. The pre-booking figures, the highest for any phone in the Rs 8k-25k range, are testimony to our proposition of offering advanced selfie capabilities with longer battery life in our phones. To reinforce this trust in our customers, we are hosting mid night launches of A1 in various cities so none of our customer has to wait till next day morning to get onboard for the Gionee experience.”

The launch of A1 – Gionee’s first flagship device of the year has been monumental in the company’s growth story in India, considering all Gionee phones sold in India are Made in India starting March 2017. Going bullish on strengthening its presence across the country, Gionee today has 42,000 retail outlets and 555 exclusive service centres to cater to its customers. The company had also doubled its sales representatives to 20k and added 9 more National Distributors starting this year.

The soaring pre-booking numbers for A1 can be attributed to the assurance for Super Battery – Super Selfie experience and the huge viral campaign around the phone featuring brand ambassador Alia Bhatt in Gionee’s #Selfiestan. Gionee also recently roped in Dulquer Salmaan, Shruti Hasan and Diljit Dosanjh as its regional brand ambassadors to deepen its customer connect across the country.

Taking forth the Gionee legacy, A1 features a stunning 16MP front camera and 13MP rear camera with F2.0 lens and dual tone flash technology. The phone is powered by MediaTek P10 processor and has 4GB RAM. There is also 64GB internal storage and 4010 mAh battery with fast charging feature. The A1 features a 5.5-inch screen with AMOLED panel and 1080P resolution. The phone flaunts a premium look due to the layer of curved glass on top of the screen. It sports a full-metal body design and has a front mounted fingerprint sensor. Also, A1 is one of the first phones from Gionee to come with Android 7.0 Nougat.
