The DST-FICCI Global R&D Summit 2017 closes with an address by Shri R V Deshpande, Hon’ble Minister for Small, Medium & Large Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka

Bengaluru, 10th April 2017:Addressing the Global R&D Summit 2017, the Hon’ble Minister for Small, Medium & Large Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka Shri R.V. Deshpande highlighted the importance of Research &Development, and said that “the country will need to increase the GDP spent on R&D from 1% to realize India’s bright future”.

 

The Global R&D Summit 2017 was organized by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Bengaluru.

 

Stating that Karnataka had given the thrust on R&D and IT many years before, it is now receiving rich dividends through the proactive polices that the Government of Karnataka initiated, he added “the credit also goes to all the sections of the society in Bengaluru who have supported these initiatives over the years”.

Speaking on the Start-up culture, Hon’ble minister also said that “Karnataka is a place where more than 400 MNCs are placed and the state of Karnataka was first state to bring Start-up policy in the Country”.

 

Shri R.V Deshpande promised cooperation and support to the industry and closed his remarks by acknowledging FICCI-Edelman Knowledge Reportson ‘Towards Making Bengaluru as R&D Capital of India’ and ‘Harnessing private Sector Investment in R&D’.

 

Mr. Nirankar Saxena, Assistant Secretary General, FICCI thanked the Hon’ble Minister for supporting FICCI’s vision to start an Incubation centre in Bengaluru and for collaborating the Summit as the ‘host state’ this year’s edition of the Global R&D Summit. The proposed incubation centre will seek to identify and support entrepreneurs working towards creating jobs and livelihood opportunities for the people of Karnataka.

 

The Global R&D Summit 2017 witnessed participation of 200+ delegates attending 8 thematic sessions on various aspects of R&D. The Summit also saw the signing of Joint Declaration between The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation to stimulate cooperation in the field of promoting innovation activities between the two countries.
