Cricket & Bollywood become the flavour of this travel season
· Mastani Deepika beats Desi Girl Priyanka to become the most desired female celebrity holiday companion
· Rakhi Sawant gets a Do Not Disturb from Indian travellers
India, 05 April, 2017: Wanderlust is at the top of most Indians’ minds, and the Instagram profiles of their favourite celebrities are only creating more aspiration by fanning this burning desire to explore exquisite lands and set new #travelgoals.
In a recent survey, Hotels.com asked Indian travelers to vote for their most desired celebrity travel buddies. Over 300 Indian users shared their views on their dream celebrity companions which have brought forth some interesting results.
Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, who have taken Hollywood by storm, are now vying for the number one spot on the top female celebrity, Indians wish to spend their vacation with. While PC might be slaying it globally, the desi girl came in second to Deepika Padukone (53%) on holiday-makers’ wish list back home with 40.3%.
Sunny Leone and Jacqueline Fernandez known for their glamorous avatars and killer dance moves came in at third and fourth place respectively followed by Alia Bhatt, who is currently India’s sweetheart, at fifth spot.
While young Bollywood starlets dominated the female celebrity roster, the Shehenshaah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, topped the male celebrity list and gave young heartthrobs like Virat Kohli and Ranbir Kapoor, a run for their money, by garnering 33.3% of all Indian votes.
Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, came in close at second place with 31.7% votes – indeed, a performer on and off the field! Ranbir and Virat’s popularity saw them being voted the third and fourth most desired male celebrity travel buddies respectively.
Even as Indian movie and cricket names primarily dominated the list, international football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo, made a surprise entry at number five with 27.3% votes. The extremely good-looking father of one, found his way to the hearts of Indians with his killer football moves, the only non-Indian celebrity that made it on the list!
If these results weren’t interesting enough, guess who made it to the list of most unpopular celebrity travel partners?
Rakhi Sawant’s (44%) antics and high-pitched drama have earned her a huge thumbs down with Indians ranking her as the least popular travel buddy. Bipasha Basu (28.7%) and Vidya Balan (26%) also failed to make the cut and got themselves enlisted on the list of least popular celebrity travel companions list.
The Holiday Wish list
Survey results also show that Indians dissed the passé touristy alternatives while vacationing, with 43.3% choosing to dance the night away at the best nightclubs with their dream celebrity travel partners. On the other extreme, romantic Karan Johar movies seemed to have left an impression on Indian hearts with 43% choosing to go on a dreamy dinner date with celebrities.
The selfie fever refuses to die down as taking uncountable selfies with celebrities (39%) while vacationing turned out to be the third most desirable thing Indian travelers wanted. Riding around in a sports car and taking a private jet with a celebrity companion also made it to the top five must do list.
The survey is a reflection of the rising wanderlust and, the aspirational value celebrities lend to the travel desires of Indians which Hotels.com is keen on facilitating.
