The story of the Indian typewriter is the story of change and empowerment of the people. It became a symbol of modernity in the workplace and, unwittingly, the typewriter also became an instrument of official power, with the typist standing between the citizens and the high ranking government officials. To bring to life the history of that era, Godrej Archives decided to pay a tribute to the machine and everything it meant to Indian society in a form of a book “With Great Truth and Regard – the story of the Typewriter in India.”
Godrej Archives in collaboration with Centre for Public History at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology brings together the contributors and designer of the book for a panel discussion on the making of the book ‘With Great Truth & Regard’
Indira Chowdhury and Chirodeep Chaudhuri, the contributors to the book, will discuss their experiences of collecting memories of people from around the country through their respective media of life stories and photographs. While Sarita Sundar will discuss the process of stitching the wide variety of material collected, through the language of design.
This event is free and open for all
Date: 24th March 2016
