Board of Directors of BMTC have given in principle approval for induction of 150 Electric Buses, as part of initiative to reduce vehicular emission, noise and fuel consumption.
Since BMTC will not be able to procure them by utilizing its own resources it has been decided to seek funding support from Government of India (GoI), under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme of National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020.
NEMMP-2020 is an initiative taken by the Department of Heavy Industries (DHI), GOI that aims to accelerate the growth of the electric and hybrid components of the automotive sector. It focuses primarily on fast-tracking the manufacturing and introduction of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India primarily to reduce CO2 emissions and the dependence on crude oil.
The FAME scheme is intended to provide financial incentives to support the NEMMP, which promotes the development and uptake of EVs in India.
BMTC was the first State Road Transport Undertaking in the country to successfully conduct a trial of electric bus for 3 months in 2014. The results of the trial was very encouraging and was well received by the commuters. However since the capital cost involved in Electric buses was very high, the decision regarding induction of these buses was therefore deferred.
Appreciating the fact that the Electric Vehicle (EV) technology is associated with significant capital costs, with the battery component constituting about half of the total manufacturing costs, BMTC has been holding discussions with domain experts to look at alternatives to optimize the size of the Battery, suiting to its operational requirement, so as to reduce the cost to the extent possible in order to ensure that the cost is comparable to the Premier segment buses presently being operated by BMTC.

The Renegade Commando is a low-slung cruiser powered by a high powered 280 cc Engine with 25 BHP at 8,500 rpm and 21.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, mated to a six-speed transmission. This lightweight machine has a 200 mm ground clearance and an inbuilt USB charging point. The front disc brakes improve the braking efficiency drastically while radiation increases the engine efficiency. The bike comes with wide handlebars and hydraulic telescopic front suspension and spring rear suspension, which is ideal for a cruiser-segment motorcycle. The Renegade Commando will be available at INR 1.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
The Renegade Sports S model will also share the same engine as the Renegade Commando. The Renegade Sports S was much appreciated when it was showcased at the 2015 EICMA in Milan. The Renegade Commando and its sibling Renegade Sports S come with an electric start. An innovative feature called Service Alert Maintenance comes as a standard fitment in both Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S. The LED Lights come as a standard in Sports S version. Six-speed synchronized mesh has been added for easy cruising. The front wheel has telescopic suspension while the rear wheel has dual shock absorbers. These motorcycles have a fuel tank of 18 liters with a kerb weight of 172 Kg. The Renegade Sports S is available at INR 1.59 lakhs (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Held live from 18th to 22nd October, across Twitter and Facebook, all the viewers had to do is answer the questions asked on the Tata Sky handle (@TataSky) with the hashtag #MyKindOfMusic.
Based on responses, the selected bands and artists created the song from scratch in real time along with videos and uploaded online within 8-9 hours. Only the best responses were selected for the tailor-made songs.
In response to Tata Sky’s daily dose of questions, a total of 10 songs were created in the last four days amongst the 4 bands. These music videos have garnered over a million engagements. The most popular of the lot was the Day Dream song by The Yellow Diary which has crossed the 50,000 views mark.
It was a 4 day-social marathon, 4 bands, 10 music compositions, real time music & video production, live behind the scene videos, 8 genres and 4 never been done 360 degree videos!
